Reflecting on a recent H&S Business Review we completed for a client, their journey from insights to action was truly collaborative and swift. At their action planning workshop, there were around 40 leaders and managers in attendance, who sparked invaluable interaction, ownership, and participation.
Crucially, this consultation is not a one-time event; it’s a commitment to embed ongoing dialogue within their organisational H&S forums. If these forums don’t exist, they need to be created!
One highlight was dissecting the business vision’s clarity and resonance among colleagues. Were these aspirations solely outward-facing, or did they actually resonate with each colleague?
Choosing the right setting for this action planning workshop was key. By investing in a dedicated venue away from the daily grind, engagement with everyone in the room was quickly fostered. It really showcased the culture the client aspired to cultivate.
Envisioning success wasn’t straightforward, nor was measuring it. Yet, when colleagues were empowered to select & prioritise improvement activities, their ownership and commitment were palpable. Each selection was backed by thorough findings and corrective actions.
Perhaps, most importantly, this process marked the first time the leadership and management team had collectively crafted their H&S Strategy and Improvement Plan in one room.
With the Senior Leadership Team’s commitment to review and endorse these outputs, this organisation is rapidly charting a course towards a safer, healthier and more sustainable future.
